History. As a proud member of the Historic Hotels of America, Hotel Metro has a unique past. The building was erected in 1937 by the architectural firm of Eschweiler and Eschweiler. It was the talk of the town during construction because of its Art Deco look and being that it was the first commercial building in Milwaukee to have air conditioning. The building was named the James Mariner building after the reality company that occupied its majority.
